The cause of many weight issues in modern society is insulin dysfunction. One of insulin's primary functions is to regulate blood sugar levels. A diet grossly disproportionate in its share of sugars, such as breads, pastas, potatoes, cookies, crackers, cokes, chips, and rice causes the pancreas to produce an overabundance of insulin. An overproduction of insulin may lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level), which in turn induces sugar cravings and the vicious cycle begins again.
In addition, insulin is the main hormone that facilitates the transport of fat into the fat cell. So, insulin tells the body to "gain fat". In other words, insulin causes weight gain!

During periods of decreased calorie consumption, our body employs energy from three reserves: glycogen (carbohydrates), protein, and fats. First the body depletes its carbohydrate reserves and then turns to to its fat and protein reserves for energy.
The core principle of the Ideal Protein Protocol is to deplete the glycogen reserves completely in order to compel the body into consuming its fat reserve to burn calories. Thus, the protocol restricts sugar (carbohydrates) intake until 100% of your weight loss goal is achieved; because, as long as sugar is being consumed, your body will not be burning fat.
The body's muscle mass is preserved because Ideal Protein foods are made with high quality protein. The quality of protein used in Ideal Protein products has an impact on effective protein apsorption...the lower the quality, the lower the absorption. There is a one-time membership fee of $149, which gives you lifetime access to our weight loss coaches, Ideal Protein products and a host of other resources. Your protein foods run about $90 a week and the required vitamins due to such a restricted diet run about $90 a month.
