ORBERA® Weight Loss Balloon
The ORBERA® Weight Loss Program is a 12-month weight loss and healthy lifestyle program for adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) 30 to 40. For the first 6 months, a soft balloon rests in your stomach to help curb appetite and encourage portion control to achieve weight loss. After balloon removal, you continue to work with your support team 6 more months to ensure long-term success.
Balloon Placement
ORBERA® is a soft, silicone balloon that is placed into the stomach in a simple, non-surgical outpatient procedure under mild sedation. The deflated balloon is inserted through the esophagus and into the stomach via endoscopy. The balloon is then filled with a sterile saline solution to about the size of a grapefruit. The entire procedure takes about 20 minutes. After roughly 2 hours of recovery, patients go home to start their new lifestyle.
Aftercare Program
The Aftercare Program is part of the unique ORBERA® 2-Part Program that combines the first 6 months placement of the balloon with a 12-month coaching program. During the first 6 months you will learn how to use your ORBERA® balloon as a tool to aid in your weight loss. Monthly visits with the physician, dietitian, exercise physiologist, and support groups are key to the program's success.
Balloon Removal
Once the stomach balloon has been in place for six months, the balloon is removed. This simple, non-surgical procedure is very similar to the placement process. Once the ORBERA® balloon has been removed, it is very important to continue working closely with your support team and coaches to follow the personal diet and exercise plan given to you. This will help to keep you in a positive and healthy mindset while achieving your weight loss goals.
ORBERA® Coach and Ongoing Support
ORBERA® Coach* is an online portal that provides convenient access to support and helpful information for patients during their weight loss journey. Available both online and via a user-friendly App, ORBERA® Coach offers post-procedure support to help patients optimize their weight loss and maintain their weight loss after balloon removal.
Success rates of weight loss programs are much higher with the help of an aftercare program. A few of the tools featured in ORBERA® Coach that aid in long-term weight loss success includes one-on-one consultations with an ORBERA®-trained dietitian, a personal journal, healthy recipes, progress and diet trackers, and meal planning.

Cost
Unfortunately, insurance does not cover the ORBERA® weight loss balloon at this time. The cost of our ORBERA® program is $6800, which includes surgeon consultation, insertion, removal, and a 12 month monitored weight loss program. $150 is due at the time of consultation and will be applied to the total cost of the program. Financing options are available through national agencies including Lending USA, Prosper Healthcare Lending, and CareCredit.
Many patients don’t realize the cost they spend on weight loss products or that the deductible they need to meet on insurance programs can be higher than the cost of this non-surgical weight loss solution. The procedure is tax deductible for many patients, and you could ultimately save 30% of the cost through using a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account.
